Funny winter paintings of the Dutchman Anton Pick, which will give New Year’s mood

The anticipation of the New Year holidays, which in childhood always arose by itself, over time, many of us dulled. And if the pre-Christmas mood does not come to you, then let’s try to create it yourself. After all, holidays are just around the corner. And the wonderful Dutch artist Anton Pik and his funny fairy-tale paintings will help us in this …

If you dig deeper, then in the soul of each of us there will be a small child who still has faith in miracles. The elusive aura of the New Year holidays, which is created by a decorated Christmas tree, colorful garlands, the smell of tangerines, can briefly return us to a carefree childhood, giving us a feeling of happiness, joy, security and warmth.

Fairy tale … the dream of the midnight …
But where to get it? From where
And the heart wants a miracle
Let a small but a miracle!
E. Asadov. Winter Tale

From his early childhood, Anton Pik loved to draw and adored tales. And he carried this love throughout his life. Modest in appearance and rather silent, he lived immersed in the world of his own fantasies, and perceived the world around him as a fairy tale. “I like to dive into the previous centuries,” he once said in one of his interviews.
Some called him Dutch Andersen. Only, unlike Andersen, he painted his magic stories on paper with paints and a magic brush, using dim, muted tones. Favorite seasons of this artist were autumn and winter.

White wind whirls,
Whistles on the run …
I need to do business
And I just can not …

Everything in the world is mysterious now,
Everything seems to be flying somewhere
Blizzard, beautiful, fabulous …
And I believe in fairy tales.

It seems that it is he who sits on the roof, drawing scenes from the life of the city, creating his fairy-tale world on paper …
Let’s plunge into the atmosphere of this small old town created by the imagination of a talented artist, wander through its crowded streets, look at the city bustle on the eve of a magical holiday … It is impossible not to be fascinated by the pictures of Anton Pick.

The plots of his paintings are not distinguished by serenity and iridescence. Often, they can be seen quite modestly dressed citizens, or even poor people. But at the same time, all his works are imbued with lyricism and good irony. And from his paintings blows a miracle and magic …

Blizzard, like a bear,
The whole evening is evil
That howls below under the stairs,
That scraping glass paw.

Painfully I want to believe
What dreams come true suddenly
Through the blizzard bell at the door –
And here you are!

Tremulous, embarrassed,
Is it dreaming or not dreaming ?!
Powdered with snow,
Asterisks on the eyelashes …

All the drawings of this talented artist are distinguished by a special, unique style – a stunning ability to harmoniously build a multi-figured composition with careful drawing of a huge number of details. Each of his paintings is a small story about the life of the inhabitants of a small town. All of them want to be considered for a long time, while on the crowded streets you can see a lot of curious and unique details.

One would like to go skating on the frozen river with the kids, make a snowman, stand in front of the magic windows of old shops, hang out at the noisy city festive fair. Is not it a miracle!

That ended our walk through the streets of the magical town of Anton Pick, but the contemplation of the works of this artist causes a desire to again and again plunge into their mystical atmosphere …
It’s time to return from the tale to his business.

Enough! Enough! I will not!
Midnight … buzzing wires …
Extinguish the lights everywhere.
I know: a miracle comes true,
Yes, but that’s not always …
E. Asadov. Winter Tale
